Risk and Reward: Collection Inspiration

So to kick off the blog with something new I will be doing illustrations for a small collection called Risk and Reward. The inspiration for this collection is the risk that needs to be taken sometimes in order to be rewarded. I have felt for quite a while that I needed to do something fresh and something different. This new layout reflects my current personal design aesthetic. This is just the beginning, I am getting back into the ideas that got me interested in fashion. I am making this blog all about my thought and design process...House of Lussuria is my new concept and is my new baby! I intend to eventually release clothing under this name but for now it will remain just a blog about my thoughts and designs. I will occasionally post different styles and trends but then I will incorporate them into my design and my idea of what fashion is. I hope you all enjoy what is to come...I am excited and firmly believe in this project!

I am getting back to basics and what is important to me and that is...DUHHHH Fashion! I have been neglecting things and for that I am soooooo sorry. Fashion never sleeps and I don't care what it takes to make it back to where I was! I want to re-launch with a whole new layout so it will take some time to get together but once I do it is ON! I want to make this blog more of a personalized fashion design journey blog...I want this to be more about me and my designs and my mission to make it into FIT....like I said back to Basics!

Collection Highlights

Collection Breakdown

Colors: There are a lot of neutrals in this collection and I see that as a recurring trend in the collections. Christian also used a lot of metallic fabrics. I love the color palette of the collection besides a few choice transition looks (posted below) I feel They took away from the collection rather then helped it flow.

Fabrics: A lot of clean and crisp fabrics along with metallic brocades. Collection included a lot of cotton and silk/satin as well as some chiffon.

Silhouette: Again I see another recurring trend and that would be the 1970's silhouettes. such as pant suits blazers and blouses. The dresses are more modern day tight to the body with a lot of draping detail.

Details- Thick and thin leather belts, Chic open toe pumps, Tan hand bags and aviators. As for jewelry there was a lot of turquoise...always a good way to spice up the neutrals!

Model Look: The hair was pulled back in a chic bun. The look was young vibrant and professional. The models seemed to be glowing and looked simply beautiful!

Collection Review

This collection was very pleasing to the eye despite a few looks that should have been cut from the lineup. Christian and his team need to use an editing eye and edit down...I feel if this collection contained maybe 7 less pieces it would be spot on. There was too many filler pieces that don't transition well and could be removed to better the show. Overall I thought it was young and refreshing. The pieces where very tailored and made well. Since project runway Christian Siriano has really made a great name for himself! I am impressed by this collection it has its quirks but it really was a nice collection and I enjoyed watching it!

Pieces I dislike

This is just not flattering and the color was horrid!

Again with that ugly leather and paired with that blue top...it is just bad.

This to me just looks cheap...the pants look like cheap satin and the top with those pants does not work...I also am not crazy about the top print and the random unflattering ruffle.

Bensoni Spring 2011 highlights:

The Breakdown

Colors: neutrals w/ bright pops of color, Orange, Yellow, Green, white, black, and tan shades. Neutral prints.

Fabrics/Texture: Chiffon (blouses and skirts), Silk, Satin, Cotton, Cotton Jersey, Soft flowing fabrics with some jacket fabrics.

Details: Prints, Stripes, Neutral prints with bright colors. Open toe sandals with strap detail. Also there where a few punk rock looking necklaces. 1970's meets modern collection.

Model Look: This show featured models of all different ethnicity's and complexions. The makeup and hair was very uniform. It was almost like a uniform from twenty years into the future.

Review:

Bensoni's spring 2011 collection started off lacking much significance. It looked like simple clothing done with neutral prints. As the collection got about halfway through I noticed a progression. The show started with Neutrals, moved into neutrals with bright colors, and finished with fun and funky bright outfits. The progression seemed natural but I didn't like where the collection started and it was interesting where it ended up. I cannot decide if interesting is a good thing. I cannot decide if I like this collection or hate it. It possibly is a bit of both. I like some of the color palette and I adore the silhouettes but this collection left me a little puzzled. I didn't get a good feeling of what this collection is really about.

Givenchy Couture...Really??

Let's be real...only three to four pieces are actually wearable (and only to the most prestigious events) But Riccardo Tisci's latest couture collection for Givenchy is beautiful. These pieces belong in a museum not on models. The artistry and craftsmanship behind these pieces should be appreciated. But I have a problem with all of this unwearable and unwanted luxury. We want luxury portrayed in clothing we can afford and wear. We want practicality and use out of our clothing while looking chic at the same time. Though this collection is not exactly targeted towards the average consumer...but even those who can afford this need to cut back in some situations.

I remember a few years ago when I just started as a fashion student. I was just learning so much in and out of the classroom! I had been taking in so much inspiration and really loving the excitement I would get when I would see something just amazing in a magazine.

I had been flipping through an issue of Vogue and that's when I saw this! To this day it has been a piece that has remained on my mind. I never forgot this piece and I have always wished I could have it...It is nothing extremely inventive or out there but it is a piece I have always loved and stumbling upon it now brings back great memories! Well I have a lot coming up this summer. I will be off from school and dedicating myself to this blog and a few other amazing opportunities coming up. I have a new blog layout in the works and have been busy busy busy planning things for this summer. Now if all goes as planned big things will be happening for me and this blog and its readers. I have another opportunity though that may get in the way. I may be interning at a HUGE fashion label (I'm not sure I can say what one) without jeopardizing it but is is a possibility. BUT if not I would still be glad running this blog and exposing you to many of my other ventures coming up. One of them as I discussed is my Handbag line through Fashion Stake. I also may be a featured designer/blogger on a new very cool platform that allows certain professionals in certain trades to display their skills and help others. Update On The Fashion Show

My moment on the runway was amazing! Everything went as planned...Video will be posted tonight! It was the best night of my life. This is my second fashion show but this one was definitely the best. It was so hectic back stage and I was there hours in advance. I got to do a bit of runway co-ordinating and I had to teach some of the girls how to walk and pose seeing as how this was my second time at this venue. It was great I wish I could re-live that moment a million times! I cant wait until you guys see the video!

Bottega Veneta Resort 2011

Bottega Veneta's 2011 resort collection is an interesting get away wardrobe. Not many of these pieces could be mixed or be worn in the city. I hardly like the collection but it is not my absolute worst pick. I wish there would have been a better use of color. a lot of the collection was all black, and also most of the pieces did not have enough shape to them they where almost sheath like. I just feel that after a drab and dingy fall that things would brighten up a bit and silhouettes would be tighter. Then randomly the collection transitioned into Lycra colorful tops. the only good thing about this collection is the swim wear and some of the colorful dresses towards the end. I do not get it this collection was just kind of baffling and a lot seemed out of place.So the final ruling- I think most of the clothing is perfect for that summer get away but once you get back to the city put in your closet, because I doubt you are going to touch it again.

I think this collection is just marvelous. It is so chic and bright and just everything I have wanted from a collection in a while now. The clothing just exudes femininity with every striking detail. I love how it is conceptual and yet most pieces are wearable by real women. I can see chic women on the streets in these pieces. I love the analogous color scheme all of the colors kind of blended together. It was very pleasing to the eye! I am very happy with this collection it makes me feel refreshed!

I recently posted about Miley Cyrus and her $25,000 dollar dress. I wanted to look into the designer's more and it turns out that The Blonds (two designers Phillipe and David blond) have designed some very well known pieces that I recognize from the pages of Vogue and from being worn by other celebrities. Their work is couture and is made to order so they basically can do anything. They have had two collections shown and they are stunning and breath taking. I'm sure you will recognize some of the pieces...here are a few of my favorites from their spring of 2009 collection!

Miley rocks a $25,000 silver-scale corset and dress made from 2,400 metal pieces and peacock feathers in her new music video for "Can't Be Tamed," which premieres at 7 p.m. ET on E! (The song is off her album of the same name, which hits stores June 22.) The corset was designed by The Blonds and debuted in their fall 2010 fashion show. In the video, Cyrus -- who was criticized for a racy dance routine at the August 2009 Teen Choice Awards, and a controversial Vanity Fair shoot the year before -- also dons hot pants while surrounded by scantily-clad dancers in a cage. The Christian Louboutin spring shoe collection I must say is to die for! I am not to keen on the fur detail on the first boot but I love the silhouettes. His Ad campaign is obviously inspired by Lewis Carroll The writer of "Alice in Wonderland", But also seems to contain a Salvador Dali motif. For using two overly rehashed advertisement concepts, it still does not go as far to take away from the shoes. It has a slight bit of originality...but to say even a pinch more then that is a stretch. Yes it is nice to look at and artistic but it is not ground breaking. I would like to see something DIFFERENT...something that I have not seen before.

At times, counterfeiting can be a good thing. Just ask the district attorney in Brooklyn, New York. Seven truckloads of confiscated counterfeit designer duds and shoes -- Ed Hardy, Nike and Diesel among the imitation brands -- are headed to earthquake victims in Haiti.
The 125,000 tons of clothing and shoes, valued at $10 million, were seized by New York police and would normally be destroyed, but in this case, the contraband will go to good use.
"Permission was obtained from manufacturers, including Nike, Timberland, Antik Denim Jeans, Black Label and Christian Audigier, to allow the knockoffs to be donated to charity

But there's one catch: All brand identifiers like labels and logos will be removed in order to avoid trademark issues.

Alexander McQueen one of the most influential designers of recent history has put together a chic and detailed collection before passing on. his beautiful work will live on and continue to inspire us. I think the shoes are especially magnificent. I always have felt that shoes are like little works of art. This collection like his previous shoes have continued to embrace the same idea. They are literally beautiful sculptures to wear on your feet. The beautiful sublime detailing in the bags just compliment the shoes and clothing from his last collection. It has been a pleasure to see the pieces he has completed.

Metaphorically speaking of course, I have been neglecting my blog a bit and I guess it has been sort of a bitterness. I applied to my dream fashion school and I did not get in. ever since then it has been hard to keep up with things because I have been kind of upset about it. But enough about the bad. I am moving on from that and I will re-apply for next fall...enough said. NOW I have some great news! There is a new company being developed that is called Fashion Stake. This company will be launching soon. It is a company that allows investors to invest in designers in return for credits to purchase their, or any other designers goods. I am planning on launching an accessory line for next fall or more specifically a hand bag collection. I am working out all the planing details at the moment. I will start out kind of small and exclusive but I will hopefully expand but that is all depending on how successful the collection is and how fashion stake works out for me. I already have promotion in mind and the collection itself of course! I will share all details and designs here first so keep a look out for it. I am truly excited to be moving forward. I will not let any bump in the road stop me from chasing and succeeding at my dream!

Not your little girls Hello Kitty watch

Upcoming from Chouette are these interesting and cool Hello Kitty watch known as the Message ♥ Kitty collection watches. There are several versions in a few colors (about six colors actually). The highest end are rose gold plated with galuchat straps. All have full pave synthetic diamonds on the dials. The quartz movement turns the stones into an LED screen. The cases have the iconic shape of Hello Kitty and are mainly in steel, with some plastic (or perhaps ceramic). Given the nature of the LED screen, you likely need to press a button for the time to appear. There are also a few other things that can appear like messages and shapes. The watches are actually quite tasteful and nice in a high-end Hello Kitty kind of way. Price is about $620 - $800.

Chanel's fall 2010 collection is filled with faux fur. At first I was not aware the fur was fake but now that I know it is I can appreciate the collection more. I don't like fur and I would never use any real fur in my designs. This is a good thing this collection yes unfortunately it promotes fur but on the plus side such a high class expensive brand using Faux fur promotes those who do want fur to use the fake stuff!

My Novel-Supermodel Behavior

Here is a slightly rough draft for my first novel titled "Supermodel Behavior" I still may change some things with the cover and the book is early in development but this will most likely be the cover I use for drafts but I may decide to use it with some tweaks who knows. I am anticipating to be finished by the end of the summer and will seek publishing then. So far it is a chic-lit light fun novel about a super model who then runs into some unfortunate events. It is going to be very humorous and will include LOTS of fashion, I cant wait for people to read it! I will keep you updated on the progress of the novel.

Because I am so fickle I have decided to change the cover (yes I know already!) and I am really liking this cover so much! I think this is going to be THE cover like the actual released cover! Hope you like it and give your feedback on both! I hope you see it as an improvement.
